    The Selection criteria

    In order to select people with the appropriate skills and experiences to organise and teach MHFA courses, there are up to eight questions on this application form to answer to show that you meet the following criteria:

    • Good knowledge of mental disorders and their treatment

    • Personal or professional experience with adults experiencing mental health problems

    • Favourable attitudes towards people with mental health problems

    • Exceptional teaching and communication skills

    • Good background knowledge of mental health and community services

    • Effective interpersonal skills

    • Sound business plan or organisational support to ensure MHFA sustainability

    Please answer the following questions in order to assist us to assess how you meet the selection criteria. When writing your responses please include specific examples of what you have done.

    Please do not send a CV as this will not be considered. If all the questions included in this form are not answered your application will not be considered.

    Important things to note

    Your application must be written by yourself, not a third party.

    • Applications need to be received no later than 4 weeks before the commencement date of the course.

    • We recommend that participants have experienced good mental health for the 12 months prior to attending the course due to the material that is covered in the training.

    • Please note that limited places are available. Once the maximum is reached, applications will be placed on a waiting list for cancellations.

    • We recommend that you do not book travel and accommodation until you have been accepted into the course.

    Police Clearance and Character References

    MHFA Cayman Islands requires all instructors to submit a valid Police Clearance Certificate from the RCIPS Criminal Records Office that is dated no longer than six (6) months of completing this instructor application.

    All instructors must also submit two (2) signed character reference letters, these letters must include the following details:

    • The referee’s contact details, if follow-up required.

    • Describe how long and in what capacity they have known the applicant.

    • Comments on applicant’s personal integrity, interpersonal & communication skills, responsibility & reliability, and experience with mental health education.

    • Disclose, if applicable, any concerns about suitability to be a MHFA Cayman Islands instructor (or explicitly state none)
